This Throwback Thursday we take a trip down memory lane with the 1969 Corvette Stingray. This American classic was the third generation of Corvette models and a return to the Stingray branding. Despite having a rocky reception from the automotive process at the time (for poor levels of build quality), the 1969 Corvette Stingray has become a truly iconic muscle car thanks to its infamous aggressive design and powerful engines.
Chevrolet offered the Corvette Stingray in either a coupe or convertible variant, with a four speed manual transmission. Both variants encapsulated what a muscle car should look like, with a short back end and a hostile looking hood. Side air intakes complete the look, whilst also optimising performance. Speaking of performance, the V8 engine could produce 300 horsepower and what was a truly awesome soundtrack.
Production of the third generation Chevrolet Corvette ran from 1968-1968 - with 38,762 models crafted. Despite the negative reviews, the model sold well. Though the convertible body style was more fashionable at the time, the Corvette Coupe outsold the convertible for the first time with 6,000 more sales. The Corvette is now approaching its eighth generation, with a debut of the new model slated for July 18th 2019.
