Toyota have debuted an all-new fifth-generation RAV4, built on Toyota’s new platform, with generous technology and an aggressive new look.

After a very brief teaser of the vehicle, Toyota have finally revealed the all-new 2019 RAV4 at the New York Motor Show. The latest RAV4 brings with it many changes. To start with, fifth-generation RAV4 models will be the first built on Toyota New Generation Architecture (TNGA) platform which will offer significant improvements to ride quality, reductions in interior cabin noise and increased vehicle safety.

Perhaps most notable however is the bold new look of the 2019 RAV4, with major styling cues directly inspired by the Toyota FT-AC Concept. The new model has a much greater road presence with a rugged grille and sharp body styling. It also is more physically imposing too, with an increase in vehicle width and a longer wheelbase than the existing model.

This increase in size also results in more cabin space and comfort for passengers, with more head and leg room for rear occupants. Toyota have also made efforts to make the RAV4 a more versatile vehicle with a double boot floor, side nets and folding seats. A more upmarket interior also features, with high quality materials and build quality throughout.

Standard equipment on the new model is generous with Toyota’s Entune 3.0 infotainment system featured on a 7-inch touchscreen. Apple CarPlay compatibility is also standard, alongside a WiFi hotspot. Safety features include automatic emergency braking, auto high-beam headlights, lane departure warning and radar cruise control.

There is a choice of a petrol powertrain or an improved hybrid option. A new 2.0-litre petrol unit is available which can be paired with a manual or automatic transmission. The hybrid variant utilises a 2.5-litre petrol engine, with a second electric motor added to power the rear wheels, enabling four-wheel-drive.
