After much anticipation and a delayed reveal, the Tesla Truck was finally revealed in the early hours of the morning. What was also revealed at the same event however, came as a surprise to us all - a new Tesla Roadster sports car. Elon Musk revealed the two new models and the finer details of the eagerly awaited truck in the early hours of Friday morning.
Tesla Semi Truck:
The Tesla Truck is, as expected, an all-electric vehicle with a range of 500 miles on a single charge. This is based upon a maximum towing weight and going at a consistent speed of 60 miles per hour. It can recharge from empty to 400 miles in just 30 minutes, the legal rest requirement in the US, using Tesla’s new solar-powered megachargers.
It also impresses in terms of performance, with a trailer attached the new truck will achieve 0-60mph in just five seconds. When towing 36,000kg this figure understandably rises nearer to the 20 second mark. Maximum speed is also impressive at 65 miles per hour whilst towing maximum gross weight. It also claims to be more aerodynamically efficient than a Bugatti supercar, credited to its “bullet-shaped” nose.
Inside the HGV is a unique central driving position, with one screen either side of the steering wheel. Plenty of the automatic safety features on Tesla cars are featured here including lane keeping, collision warning and automatic emergency braking. It will also feature some autonomous technology, being able to drive itself on highways. Production begins in 2019, and orders are now open.
As the Tesla Truck reveal was coming to close, the trailer opened and out drove an incredible surprise. The second-generation Tesla Roadster, which will be the fastest production car in existence. Capable of 0-60 miles per in hour in an record-braking 1.9 seconds, with a top speed of over 250 miles per hour - the performance figures speak for themselves.
This is not the only record the Tesla Roadster looks set to break, with a 200kwh battery that offers a range of up to 630 miles. Elon Musk claimed that the vehicle would be capable of driving from Los Angeles to San Francisco and back without the need to recharge. All this is great, but the aesthetic can also not be overlooked, as a stunning four-seater roadster. No word on production or sale dates, however $50,000 gets you on the waiting list.
