New Volvo S60 Saloon

6th Jul 2018
By Daniel Jones

After a exhausting teaser campaign, the Volvo S60 Saloon has finally been revealed. An executive saloon with modern design and powerful engines.

After an extensive teaser campaign, the second generation of the Audi A1 Sportback has been revealed. The new model has received significant upgrades since the original variant, with a fresh new face and advanced technology featured within. It is also unique to the first-generation, as it will only be available as a five-door petrol variant, with no diesel engines available.

Exterior:

The new Volvo S60 Saloon is based upon the V60 Estate, though benefits from the more elegant and sleek bodystyle. Modern design language is used throughout, with the several highlights including the Thor’s Hammer LED headlight profile. The headlights now extend closer to the upright grille design, whilst the lower diffuser is more angular in design than other models in Volvo’s range.

Side profile images reveal the sculpted nature of the body, resulting in an athletic yet classy look for the sport saloon. Broad shoulders also feature towards the tail of the vehicle for improved aerodynamics and what Volvo decidedly name a “sportier attitude”. Another characteristic design for the tailights also feature, with ‘C’ shaped profiles that are almost identical to those found on the future Polestar 1 model.

Interior:

Inside the Volvo S60 Saloon is an upmarket interior with supreme levels of build quality. The sleek exterior style is complimented by the opulent interior design. Sharing a lot with other models in the Volvo range, a minimalistic dashboard features, with a nine-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity is available, alongside a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.

Performance:

The Volvo S60 Saloon is built on the brands Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), sharing a selection of the same engine range as the V60 as a result. Both a T5 and T6 engine will be available at launch, offering 250 horsepower and 316 horsepower as standard. Alternatively turbocharged and a supercharged plug-in hybrid option is available. A T8 Twin-engine all-wheel drive tops the range with a 400 horsepower output.
