Mini Electric Concept US Debut
Mini’s growing focus on the electric vehicle market is evident, showcasing the Mini Electric Concept in the US for the first time at the LA Auto Show.
The Mini Electric Concept has headlined the brands LA Auto Show display, with interest peaking in an all-electric concept of the iconic British vehicle. Whilst Mini state that this is their vision for the future, a production version of the Mini Electric will be released in 2019, utilising the experience and lessons gained from development of the BMW i3 and other electrified vehicles.
Whilst there is currently no details about the real world range of the production Mini EV, it is expected to be at least near to the 200km mark. A press release from Mini states that “The British premium brand’s concept vehicle is the precursor to emission-free mobility, MINI-style. The MINI-typical go-kart feeling takes on a whole new level thanks to the purely electric drivetrain.”
The concept vehicle is an unmistakable MINI design, with the same retro, compact and sporty body that has become synonymous with the models look. It does however convey a new look with a closed radiator grille, emissions free branding, futuristic looking LED headlamps and characteristic alloys.
Further changes come in the form of a contrasting colour scheme, with yellow highlights featuring on several trim and element borders. The roof also features a gradient, from white at the front to yellow at the rear of the vehicle. The rear also is instantly recognisable as a MINI design, as the brand state that it retains “a side sporty stance.”
