Jaguar I-Pace Preview
Jaguar revealed their first electric car concept back in 2016, the Jaguar I-Pace Concept. Now the full production version is in development.
Jaguar originally confirmed that they would be working towards an electric car late in 2016, revealing the first details of the I-Pace concept that November. The debut of Jaguar’s first all-electric sports car was met with great anticipation, with a view to release a production version of the vehicle in 2018. We take a look back at the reveal and the latest developments in the production version of the vehicle in our preview.
Jaguar I-Pace Concept:
The Jaguar I-Pace Concept was a courageous step into the future of electric vehicles, and a bold new direction for the brand. With a truly ground-breaking design, and a promise of Jaguar performance combined with competitive electric vehicle technology, the I-Pace Concept turned many heads with its original reveal.
Specifications and performance figures were also highly impressive. The concept promised a range of over 500km, which would allow the average driver to only require one charge per week. Charging would also be competitive with an 80% charge achievable in 90 minutes, and a full charge in just over two hours. Performance stats are also remarkable with acceleration from 0-60mph in around 4 seconds.
The interior of the concept vehicle is equally forward-thinking, with plenty of advanced technology and styling throughout. The centre of the dashboard features a high-res main touchscreen infotainment system, below this however is another touchscreen to control climate settings. This secondary touchscreen is placed between two rotaries with unique digital displays.
A press release from the original Jaguar I-Pace Concept reveal states that ‘it will be the smartest five-seater sports car; a performance car, a family car and an SUV all in one. Its ground-breaking design, true Jaguar performance and competitive range and charging times will make this unique combination a real electric alternative to a traditional premium SUV.’
2018 Jaguar I-Pace:
Jaguar have revealed yesterday (6th December 2017) that the production version of the I-Pace has entered final validation testing prior to its reveal in 2018. Over 200 production prototypes have been created for testing, completing 1.5 million miles and 11,000 hours of testing across several European locations.
Ian Hoban, Jaguar Vehicle Line Director, was quoted saying that “After 1.5 million global test miles, the I-Pace is ready for production and is proven to deliver long distances on a single charge. Jaguar’s first battery electric vehicle will also be fast to charge; our target is a zero to 80 percent being achievable in a short break.”
It is expected that the brand will finally reveal the production version of the Jaguar I-pace at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show in March. Whilst there is no official confirmation, list prices are expected to start from around the £60,000 mark. The model is set to compete with the likes of Model X, and the upcoming Audi E-Tron (also expected to debut at the show).
2018 is set to be an exciting year with plenty of manufacturers entering the electric vehicle market for the first time. The competition and interest for these new forward-thinking models is at an all-time high, so we expect the Geneva Motor Show to reveal many of these exciting prospects for the first time. Expect a complete guide to the motor show nearer the event. In the mean time, why not take a look at our Jaguar lease offers.
