Volvo has picked up TheGreenCarWebsite 2009 Green Car of the Year award for the new C30 1.6D DRIVe.
Based on results from an online poll, the Volvo C30 DRIVe received the prestigious award by hammering the Toyota Prius and BMW 316d. Firmly backing up the public’s opinion, the journalists working at TheGreenCarWebsite also voted unanimously in favour of the Volvo C30 DRIVe.
Using start/stop technology, the new Volvo C30 1.6D DRIVe only puts out 99g/km of CO2 emissions and achieves a staggering 850 miles on a single tank of fuel thanks to its very frugal 74.3 mpg on the combined cycle. This easily puts it amongst the most fuel efficient cars in its class, but does so without sacrificing any of the style, comfort and safety levels that Volvo drivers have come to know and love. The C30 DRIVe also underlines Volvo’s vision to develop cars that are completely free of harmful exhaust emissions and that eventually stop producing CO2 altogether.
The Swedish car maker is a relative newcomer to the green car market and TheGreenCarWebsite’s editor, Faye Sunderland was impressed with how the C30 1.6D DRIVe had helped the company successfully slash emissions in such a short space of time, adding that the company’s flagship eco-friendly car was “genuinely a fantastic addition to the green scene”.
