Bringing even greater efficiency to Vauxhall’s recently launched compact hatch range, which has already seen a 13.3 percent average improvement over the previous model, is the new Astra ecoFLEX.

Going on sale in the UK in April, this will be the first ‘green’ EcoFLEX model in the new Astra range with CO2 emissions of just 109g/km and combined fuel consumption of 67.3mpg.

The new model uses an updated version of the 1.3-litre CDTi engine that was co-developed with Fiat and produces 95bhp.  This engine has now been added to the Corsa range, and is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox and a gearshift light to show drivers what the most efficient gear is.

Along with that, the car also features a host of aerodynamic aids, including an active shutter, which automatically closes at high speeds to smooth the airflow around the front of the car, and low-rolling resistance tyres to help the model achieve the lowest CO2 emissions rating possible.

This is good news for British buyers, as the Vehicle Excess Duty (VED) is down to £35 per year and the model is eligible for other fleet tax benefits including 13 percent benefit-in-kind tax liability for company car drivers.

Buyers will also have the choice of four different trim options, including S, Exclusiv, SE and for the first time a five-door ecoFLEX  SRi model.    The SRi model will allow drivers to opt for a sportier look, but without the higher taxation that it usually brings.
