Citroen’s Berlingo is one of the most successful light commercial vehicles and has sold over 800,000 vans worldwide and thanks to its great payloads and low running costs it offers, businesses are thinking twice when looking at larger vans.
The 1.6 HDi 75bhp diesel comes with a 5 speed manual transmission. The acceleration is great even with a load of 626kg and the Berlingo drives exceptionally well with responsive steering and good brake power.
Inside it is impressively comfortable and refined with the interior offering a good variety of storage options along with a good standard of fit and finish throughout. Manoeuvres in the Berlingo are made easy thanks to the rear parking sensors (offered as an extra) and it has ample wing mirrors, a huge windscreen and good seating positions which allow greater visibility.
The combined fuel consumption is 48.7mpg and service intervals are every 12,500 miles. The cambelt life has been extended too and should not need replacing until around 150,000 miles.
The load width is 1620mm, load length is 1800mm and the load height is 1250mm. The maximum towing weight is 975kg.
If you are looking for a van which offers you all the comfort of a car then the Berlingo fits the bill perfectly. There are some other strong leaders trying to compete with Citroen’s compact van but it is good enough to give any one of them a run for their money.
