Toyota has released details of the revised Hilux pick-up truck, which is set to compete with the brand new Volkswagen Amarok.
The 2.5-litre D-4D diesel engine is getting some extra power for 2010 with the addition of 24bhp and 13lb-ft of torque. Thanks to the diesel’s new high-output turbocharger, more advanced fuel injectors, and upgraded pistons, final output for the Hilux has been ramped up from 118bhp to 142bhp with 253lb-ft of torque, making this truck boot the 0-62mph time in 12 seconds.
Although there is more power, there isn’t any more pollution, as the emissions and fuel economy stay the same as before: 78g/km of CO2 emissions per mile driven and 28.4mpg combined, making this van’s emissions the lowest in its class.
Toyota has also stated that the Hilux can now carry higher payloads, with HL2 Double cab’s capacity increasing by 35kg, and the HL3 Double Cab increasing by almost 25kg.
Apart from the power and capacity upgrade, the Hilux has also received a refreshed interior with new upholstery patterns being introduced. Satellite navigation with Bluetooth, an Urban Pack featuring a front guard, scuff plates, and front and rear parking sensors are also available as options.
There is also a range-topping 3.0-litre D-4D 166bhp version available too, which is available in ‘Invincible’ trim only. The Hilux is available as a ‘single cab’, ‘extra cab’, or ‘double cab’ design, with the top-spec models getting plenty of kit to make them more appealing to drivers looking to make the change from a car to a 4×4.
