The Passat is stylish, spacious, desirable and good to drive and most versions come well equipped.  The boot is a good size and there is plenty of space for rear passengers too.

The 2.0TDI is one of the best diesels around thanks to the common-rail diesel engine and offers a smooth and quiet ride.  Average combined fuel economy is 50.4mpg and CO2 emissions are around 146g/km.  The top speed is 130mph and it will sprint from 0-62mph in a time of 9.8 seconds.  It comes with a six-speed gearbox however there is the option of an automatic six-speed Tiptronic.

Volkswagen has used the upmarket features from the Phaeton and Touareg which gives the interior of the Passat a luxurious feel.  There is plenty of adjustment in the driver’s seat and steering wheel so everyone should find a comfortable driving position.  The Passat offers an excellent ride and the seats are excellent and offer good support and comfort.  There is plenty of space in the cabin and rear passengers have decent head and legroom.  Even though it is a saloon the rear seats fold to increase load capacity.  With the seats up the boot offers upto 485 litres of luggage space and with them folded down this is increased to 2004 litres.  The glovebox is air conditioned and can store A4 sized documents and the optional CD autochanger is hidden in a drop down compartment in the glovebox too but doesn’t use up any valuable space.

The Highline model comes with alloy wheels, six airbags, ESP, air conditioning, electronic parking brake, alarm, LED rear lights and door mirror indicators, electrically adjustable and heated door mirrors, electric front windows, umbrella compartment, CD stereo with eight speakers, cruise control, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, electric rear windows, front centre arm rest and two rear vents, Vienna leather upholstery, heated front seats and a multifunction steering wheel.  There are also many other standard itmes and optional items available.
