Renault Twizy Electric Concept Will Make Production

Renault Twizy

Recently revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Renault’s four all-electric concept models in the Z.E. (zero emissions) range are apparently not just concepts, but will actually make production and within the next couple of years. The French car maker went on record again to state not only that the cars will be put into the public domain and stay very close to the concept models (according to Renault anyway), but also that the cars will be built at the company’s Valladolid factory in Spain and their Flins factory near Paris.

First off the production line in 2011 will be the funky looking Twizy Z.E., which is the 1+1 seater city car powered by a 15kW 20bhp electric motor, and this will be built in Spain.

The sporty Zoe Z.E. supermini will follow in 2012 from the France factory and is expected to make up to two-thirds of the company’s electric vehicle sales in Europe. The Fluence Z.E. compact saloon and the Kangoo Z.E. small van will complete the line up at a later date.

The statements follow a major announcement this week of a vehicle battery development and manufacturing agreement being drafted between the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), the French Strategic Investment Fund (FSI) and the Renault-Nissan Alliance.
