French car-maker Renault have just announced the Clio dCi 86 Eco2, a new eco-friendly version of their Clio that will put it into the bracket of cars that pay no road tax. Emitting a paltry 98g/km of CO2 means that the car has 15% fewer emissions than the current Clio but will cost the same amount to buy. These low emissions also mean this is the cleanest Renault production car yet.
Efficiency has also improved substantially, with the Clio Eco2 offering an average fuel economy of 76.3 mpg, a 12.1 mpg improvement over current Clios. This efficiency improvement is thanks to special low-roll-resistance tyres from compatriots Michelin, clever engine management tweaks and aerodynamic improvements. The aerodynamic modifications include a new front lip and slightly flared wheel arches that benefit the overall look of the car giving it a more sporty appearance and ties it nicely to the out-and-out Renaultsport racers in the range. The Clio has also shed quite a few kilos to tipping the scales at a 1,090 kg kerb weight.
Of course, the Clio retains all the spaciousness, practicality and nimbleness you’d expect. Available in both three-door and five-door versions, the Renault Clio dCi 86 Eco2 will be available in France next month and is expected to hit UK showrooms in the summer.
