Peugeot’s Eco Challenge

As part of its new Eco driving challenge, Peugeot are running a road race from Paris to Geneva. Four contenders from each of the 18 European countries will drive four different Peugeot models on the 621-mile prescribed route.

Entry to the challenge is open to any driver who signs up at the dedicated website at http://ecocup.peugeot.com/ or via the Peugeot website by 15th February 2010.  Peugeot will select 72 competitors from the online entries and then randomly draw out entrants to be invited to take the challenge.  Successful entrants can ask a team-mate of their choice to accompany them and can shoose either a 207, 308, 3008, or 5008 HDi model to take on the drive.  Each of the models is diesel powered practical family vehicles recognised for their excellent fuel economy and low carbon emissions.

With strict equivalent weights for each model used, the race will take-off on Sunday 28th February from Paris, and should take between the 30-36 hour permitted period to make it to Geneva.   For each model, the competitor have used the least amount of fuel at the end of the route will win a new Peugeot car of the same model, and have the keys to the vehicles handed over to them on Tuesday 2nd March on the Peugeot stand at the Geneva Motor Show.

Family and friends will be able to keep up to date with the teams’ progress on a dedicated Facebook page, where they will also be able to leave messages of encouragement, tips and suggestions.

Peugeot reckon the point of the Eco Cup challenge is to promote responsible driving behaviour and to help drivers appreciate the potential savings of driving an environmentally friendly car.
