Ahead of an expected unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show, pictures of the upcoming Volkswagen Touareg replacement have surfaced. Despite the huge secrecy involved in car design, and multimillion dollar marketing campaigns by the major motor manufacturers, this design was unwittingly “revealed” through a scale model catalogue in the Netherlands.
The new Touareg appears to be sleeker than the current model, and more rounded, with longer headlights and revised front end to match its siblings in the Golf, Polo and Scirocco. We already know that the new Touareg will use the Porsche Cayenne platform and plenty of effort is being put into reducing overall weight in a bid to make the 4×4 more eco-friendly.
The Touareg will have a range of power train options, expected to include an 3.6-liter V6 and a 4.2-litre V8, with two turbo diesels and a hybrid V6 version also available from launch.
The car’s practicality has also been improved with a longer wheelbase expected to enable the inclusion of a third row of seats.
This is actually the second scale model reveal in a week, following the new Renault Twingo CC making the pages of a similar catalogue. Expect this problem to be fixed by the manufacturers rather quickly!
