Take a look at the star of the stand for Volkswagen at the 2010 Motor Show in Geneva. This is the all new Polo GTI which will go on sale in August this year. The 1.4-litre supercharged and turbocharged four cylinder petrol engine boasts 250Nm and should reach 0-60mph in under seven seconds with a top speed of 140mph which makes it nearly as fast as it’s big brother, the Golf GTI!
Standard transmission is a seven speed twin-clutch gearbox complete with paddles mounted on the steering wheel. In order to sharpen responses, the Polo GTI is fitted with new springs and dampers which results in a 15 mm lower ride height than the conventional Polo.
The new Polo GTI continues with changes inside with revised dials, flat-bottomed GTI steering wheel complete with small gearshift paddles, aluminium pedals and new heavily bolstered front sports seats finished in a tartan trim. A black gloss trim covers the centre console while the headlining is now finished in black.
The new Polo GTI is due to arrive in the UK in the summer at which point more details and pricing will be announced but the starting price is expected to be around £18,000.
