Lotus unveiled the latest incarnation of the fabulous Exige two-seater sports car at the recent Tokyo Motor Show, with a very limited edition version call the Lotus Exige Scura.
Scura is Italian for “dark” and a clever combination of matt and gloss black paint and plenty of carbon fibre trim means that its “stealth-fighter” visual appeal is certainly a match for its driving appeal. Only 35 of these stunning cars will be built and the Scura will be powered by the same 260bhp 4-cylinder 1.8-litre supercharged engine found in its sibling Exige Cup 260.

Using lightweight carbon fibre in and around the car results in significant weight saving, with a resulting mass of just 925kg. To keep the power under control, the Scura has variable slip launch control, traction control, 2-way adjustable Ohlins dampers and special soft, grippy tyres from Yokohama. All this helps push 0-62mph performance to just 4.1 seconds, 0-100mph in under 10 seconds and a top speed of 152mph.
Driven sensibly, the car will even return a respectable 33.2 mpg, but once you get into the suede wrapped racing buckets seats and head out on to winding B-roads, the temptation to push the Scura will probably mean more frequent trips to the petrol station!
Unfortunately the exclusivity of the menacing Scura means that the price tag is heavy, at £45,950, but you certainly get an awesome combination of engineering and style.
