The Lotus Elise is widely regarded as one of the best driver’s cars on the market, but Lotus haven’t rested on their laurels and have introduced a special edition called the Elise Club Racer.
Specials are popular with the Lotus enthusiasts, but rather than making a mad, lightweight out-and-out racer that we’ve seen from other manufacturers with their special editions, the Racer actually focuses more on looks than performance.

Available in a small selection of traditional Lotus colours from the Elites and Elans of the 1960s (Elite Yellow, Carbon Grey, Sky Blue and Old English White), the Racer adds a bespoke and contemporary interior to give the car a sense of style.

The interior shows flashes of the exterior colour through modern materials so that the mix of old and new blends beautifully together. Lightweight and modern materials are used in abundance, with aluminium, anodised and anthracite adjectives peppered throughout the cabin.
And if you, maybe intentionally, overcook things a bit on the corners and find yourself over-steering nicely out of the bend, Lotus have even marked a line on the steering wheel so that you know where the front wheels are hopefully going to take you next!
Based on the Lotus Elise S, the same engine is featured with 134bhp shifting the car from 0 to 62 mph in just over 6 seconds.
The special edition Elise Club Racer is being launched at the Frankfurt motor show and goes on sale next week. September 2009.
