Local Info To Be Available At Your Fingertips

Manufacturers are working with software companies to create Apple like applications that will give drivers useful local information via Internet data.

Ford have already previewed the idea at the Beijing Motor Show last month and have also confirmed that the new Focus due out next year will come with the new technology.  The screen on the dashboard will feature new technology called MyFord Mobile and owners will in time be able to set it up to their own personal needs.

Volkswagen has already launched an ‘App My Ride’ contest asking computer experts to find applications which would be useful to its owners.  Some cars already come with an internet connection like BMW’s latest 5-series which connects to Google via a mobile phone network.  This allows the driver to search for places and this is then synced to the sat-nav.

So soon if you drive past a restaurant one day but not sure about the food, you can ask your car to tell you exactly what it is like.  They are hoping it will also include other things like live flight arrival information which for taxi drivers and chauffeur’s would be great when meeting clients.  It will all be voice controlled too so the driver can still focus on the road ahead.
