The Suzuki Alto is a small car that is cheap to run and insure and averages over 60mpg. Those on a tight budget will really appreciate it’s exceptional low running costs.
There is just one engine available, which is a 1.0-litre 68bhp and it has been designed more for fuel economy than speed. Average combined fuel economy for this model is an impressive 64.2mpg and CO2 emissions are just impressive too at 103g/km. The top speed of the 1.0 Alto is 96mph and it takes a time of 14 seconds to reach 0-62mph.
The Alto is only available as a five door model which means there is more space in the back and rear passenger don’t have to climb to get in. The interior is simple and user-friendly and the switches and buttons are all easy to use and read. The driving position does lack adjustment as the steering only adjusts for height and not reach but forward visibility is good thanks to the large area of glass. The rear windows only pop out rather than wind down so models that don’t come with air conditioning could get uncomfortable on hot days. The boot is an odd shape and size and unfortunately doesn’t have much depth. There are plenty of storage compartments throughout the cabin too.

The Alto only managed a three star rating which isn’t particuarly impressive and according to the crash experts the score was limited by its performance in adult occupant protection and child protection. Safety equipment is fairly reasonable for a car this size and comes with dual front and side airbags, ABS and Isofix child seat anchor points.
