Lease a Nissan Note from only £179.29 per month plus VAT.
The Nissan Note gives usual hatchback buyers some food for thought. It is an extremely practical small MPV that’s also classy inside, cheap to run and good to drive.
The entry level 1.4-litre petrol engine averages around 45mpg and is great for around town yet never feels out of its depth on faster roads. The bigger 1.6 petrol engine offers a great difference in pace while the 1.5 diesel in either 86bhp or 103bhp are powerful. The latter is most powerful with good low down pulling power. The 86bhp version is good enough for most situations and returns a very impressive 57mpg although it can struggle slightly on the motorway. The diesel copes more easily with everyday driving than the 1.4 petrol.
Four adults can travel in comfort, despite the Note’s compact proportions. Rear legroom is exceptional with more than enough room for tall passengers, even when the front passenger seat is slid right back. The driving position is comfortable, with well-placed pedals, a supportive seat and an armrest, however the steering wheel adjusts for height only. The boot is an impressive size with plenty of options to increase the boot size to a maximum of 1,332 litres. The Note also comes with a huge glovebox that is big enough to hold 12 drinks cans, a storage box under the passenger’s seat plus numerous cubbies.
In July 2007 the trim levels were changed to Visia, Acenta and Tekna (replacing S, SE and SVE).The Visia model comes with a CD player and electric front windows, but you have to go for the mid-spec Acenta to get air-conditioning, alloy wheels, powered rear windows and Bluetooth. Range topping Tekna cars upgrade the air-con to climate control and the single-slot CD player to Nissan’s Connect audio/sat-nav system and have privacy glass. All models have colour-coded front and rear bumpers, an auxiliary input for Mp3 players or iPods.
The Note was awarded four out of five stars when crash tested by Euro NCAP. All cars have dual front and side airbags, ABS, with electronic brakeforce distribution and Isofix child seat anchor points. SE/Acenta models have curtain airbags, while the SVE/Tekna come with an electronic stability programme.
For a smaller car, the Note has good interior space which is extremely practical. It is a good all-round package that is fun to drive, well equipped and cheap to run.
