Mercedes B Class

Lease a Mercedes B-Class from only £304.45 per month plus VAT.

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class is extremely spacious inside and has plenty of room for passengers and luggage.  The cabin is nicely trimmed with the high quality materials you would expect from Mercedes.

The B-Class shares its engines with the A-Class.  The range starts with a 1.5-litre 95bhp which reaches 0-62mph in 13.2 seconds.  There is a 1.7-litre 116bhp but the 2.0-litre B200 is the better choice with 136bhp and 0-62mph in 10.1 seconds.  There is a sporty B200 Turbo which uses a turbocharged version of the same engine with 193bhp and reaches 0-62mph in just 7.6 seconds with fuel economy averaging just 34mpg.  Both the C180 CDI 109bhp and the C200 CDI 140bhp use the same 2.0-litre diesel engine.

In 2008 two new BlueEFFICIENCY models were introduced which are designed to lower emissions and save fuel.  The 1.5-litre version emits 148g/km of CO2 (10g/km less than the standard model) making it cheaper to tax, while economy also improves from 43mpg to 45mpg.  Both diesel engines were also improved by around 3mpg on fuel consumption.

Inside the B-Class offers lots of rear legroom and, unusually, there is also decent shoulder room in the back too.   Engine noise is low even at high speeds although the diesel engine can seem a little noisy at times around town.  The boot has a double layer floor which at its highest setting creates a flat surface between the boot and the folded rear seats.  At its lowest position it offers a more generous boot compartment – 506 litres while maximum luggage capacity is 2,205 litres.

Mercedes is much more generous now when it comes to standard equipment.  All models come with alloys, air-conditioning, a decent stereo, front and side airbags and much more.  Options include satellite-navigation, parking assist, swivelling headlights and a full-length sunroof.  A multi-adjustable driver’s seat and steering wheel make it easy to find that suitable driving position and feel comfortable behind the wheel.  Build quality is good and all instruments are clear with the audio and ventilation system controls all logically laid out. Indicators, wipers and the main beam are controlled by the Mercedes trademark single steering column stalk which can take a bit of getting used to but is easy once you know how it works.  Six airbags are fitted as standard as are electronic anti-skid systems, active head restraints and clever seatbelts.

The Mercedes B-Class is a good choice of car for families who are looking for something a little more upmarket.
