Citroen’s Berlingo is one of the most successful light commercial vehicles and has sold over 800,000 vans worldwide.  It also has been given the financial means to tempt buyers back from their larger vans thanks to great payloads of upto 850kg and a 3.7m3 maximum load volume. It is also now available in a choice if two vehicle lengths – L1 and L2.

There are three engines to choose from – a new 1.6i petrol engine and two 1.6 HDi diesels.  Both of the new Berlingo engines can be run on 30 per cent bio diesel and come with 5 speed manual transmission.  The acceleration is great even with a load of 450kg and the Berlingo drives exceptionally well with responsive steering and good brake power.

Inside it is impressively comfortable and refined with the interior offering a good variety of storage options along with a good standard of fit and finish throughout. Manoeuvres in the Berlingo are made easy thanks to the rear parking sensors (offered as an extra).  It has ample wing mirrors, a huge windscreen and good seating positions which allow greater visibility.

The combined fuel consumption is around 48.5mpg and service intervals are every 12,500 miles.  The cambelt life has been extended too and should not need replacing until around 150,000 miles.

If you are looking for a van which offers you all the comfort of a car then the Berlingo fits the bill perfectly.  There are some other strong leaders trying to compete with Citroen’s compact van but it is good enough to give any one of them a run for their money.
