Hyundai Overtakes Ford In UK Sales

Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) figures released this week show a second consecutive month of growth in new car sales, with an encouraging 6% rise in registrations in August.

Spurred by the government’s scrappage scheme, smaller cars and greener cars have seen huge rises. However, one of the biggest surprises has been the success of Hyundai, with the Korean company outselling both Ford and Vauxhall for the first time (after removing fleet sales).

Around two thirds of Hyundai’s sales for August were the i10, and Hyundai’s UK bosses are putting this down to a good solid product and recommendations through word of mouth rather than slick advertising. Although perhaps not as good-looking as some of its rivals, the i10 city car can still rival the best in the class in terms of build quality, equipment and driver involvement.

The Hyundai is surprisingly good fun to drive with a good driving position and excellent all-round visibility. And although it’s not powerful (The 1.1 litre models takes over 15 sec from 0-62mph), the i10 can keep up with traffic and can keep you comfortable over long distances.

Throw in a 5-year warranty and a low starting price, the little i10 is an attractive proposition. Better still, its economonical and kind to the environment returning 55mpg, and 119g/km of CO2 respectively.

A choice of Classic, Comfort and Style trim levels are available, with all versions getting alloy wheels and body coloured bumpers, central locking, air conditioning, side airbags and MP3/CD player.

For fun, practical and cost-conscious driving, try the Hyundai i10 Classic from just £153.92 per month or the Hyundai I10 Hatchback Special Editions from £154.12 per month.
