Ford apparently isn’t planning to build an ST or RS version of the new Fiesta which is a shame. But the Ford Fiesta S2000 rally car has just been revealed in the apt setting of Cumbria, and therefore the possibility of a toned-down RS hot hatch is now hopefully on the cards.
Developed by M Sport in collaboration with Ford Motorsport, the 2.0-litre S2000 puts out a stonking 280hp through all four wheels, and will be homologated for competition against Peugeot and Skoda early next year in the IRC and S2000-specific events. Fifty S2000s will be built over the next year alongside its little brother, the R2 which is a 1.6-litre FWD entry-level rally car.

Using a six-speed sequential gearbox and AP clutch, the power is controlled to improve traction by using adjustable dampers with remote reservoirs, and different setups can be used for gravel or tarmac surfaces. Stopping is the realm of big Brembo callipers and discs behind 15″ aluminium or 18″ magnesium wheels.
M Sport were responsible for the record breaking Focus WRC, and the Fiesta S2000, weighing in at just 1200kg despite the necessary but heavy safety roll cage, is definitely a mouth-watering proposition for those would-be rally drivers and experienced competitors alike.
