It’s official, speaking ahead of the Geneva Motor Show, Ford has confirmed that a new fast Focus is on the way. The new model will ditch it’s current 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine for a more efficient and more powerful direct injection EcoBoost unit and be much more exciting to drive. Insiders say that Ford has yet to decide whether the new Focus will get the ST or RS badge.
For now Ford is keeping quiet about all the exact details but it is thought to be a 2.0-litre offering 250bhp and reach a top speed of 155mph in six seconds putting it ahead of the VW Golf GTi and as quick as the RenaultSport Megane 250.
Expect around 35mpg combined and CO2 emissions of 175g/km and if you factor in a range of driving modes and torque vectoring which are two of the new Focus’ features, you should be in for a great drive.
The next generation Focus is due to go on sale in late 2011, although no fixed time scale has been put on the launch of the performance version.
