The Doblo Cargo was already top-in-its-class for performance and functional features, load capacity, low fuel consumption and for being cost-effective, and now Fiat have given it a revamp and will be launching it for the UK in March.
This second generation model has a much friendlier looking front-end than the outgoing model, with streamlined sides with distinctive flared wheel arches, and a rear end that puts the accent on the accessibility and capacity of the loading compartment. The revised Doblo is also larger than the previous model.
The revamping continues inside. As soon as you enter the cabin, roominess and brightness are the most notable things, with a roof shelf and many more functions inside than the previous model. The practical cabin is more usable by adding larger side door holders which accommodates two half litre bottles of water and an A4 sized folder. There’s also a bigger glove box, which will lock up a 14″ laptop computer, and many other extra compartments for holding things like mobile phone, pens, and coins. Upholstery and seats are available in a wider range of colours and material combinations.
The Doblo is built on a new platform, which boosts it’s already spacious interior. The standard wheelbase Cargo provides 3.4m3 of load space and a load length of 1,820mm. Move up to the long-wheelbase Maxi and these figures increase to 4.2m3 and 2,170mm respectively.
The engine line-up is much more comprehensive, featuring six Multijet common rail turbodiesel and two petrol engines. To make things a little confusing, all of these powerplants are available in both a Euro 4 or Euro 5 spec, and rage from a 95bhp 1.4-litre petrol, to a 135bhp 2.0-litre diesel. The difference between the Euro 4 and Euro 5 variants of each engine is that the Euro 5 features a Start&Stop, a Diesel Particulate Filter, and Gear Shift Indicator. Fiat says that the Start&Stop can reduce fuel consumption and emissions by up to 15 percent during an urban cycle.
From launch, the Fiat Doblo Cargo will be available with a full diesel engine line-up in both standard and maxi wheelbase and will be joined by five-seater cab versions and a platform cab.
