You may have seen this strange looking but awe inspiring building during the recent Abu Dhabi F1 grand prix finale. This is Ferrari World, a simply enormous theme park built next to the Yas Marina circuit and which, along with the race track, hotels, and entire infrastructure have been built in a little over a year – the site was literally just a heap of sand as recently as that!
The pictures really don’t do the scale any justice. The giant roof, styled on the body shell of a Ferrari GT car, covers a staggering 200,000 square metres and sports the biggest Ferrari logo in the world at 66 metres across.
Set to open next year, Ferrari World is a collection of retail therapy, Ferrari history and over 20 rides and attractions designed to bring the Ferrari soul, passion and experience to all visitors. The rides include the world’s fastest rollercoaster which runs past 200 kmph, racing simulators, karting, a flume ride through a virtual Ferrari 559 engine and an aerial adventure over Italy following a Ferrari.
The result is the largest ever indoor theme park. The racing circuit and the theme park are located on Yas Island which is just 10 mins from Abu Dhabi airport and 50 mins from Dubai, so obviously the intent is to attract plenty of holiday makers and not just F1 fans.
