Daihatsu are unveiling a trilogy of quirky little concept motors at the upcoming Tokyo show, all based on their 3-cylinder 660cc engine.
The first minicar concept is the Deca Deca, Japanese for “roomy roomy”, a boxy looking MPV which, for its diminutive size, offers plenty of innovation in the way the interior can be configured many different ways to make best use of space. With doors that offer a wide opening for loading and seats that can moved or removed, the Deca Deca is an interesting combination of practicality and frugality. And style, if you’re into that kind of style.
The second concept is the e:s…

… a tidgy two-door hatch aimed at sector being led by the Ford Ka, Fiat 500 and the Mini. The pictures appear to suggest that the car is near production ready but Daihatsu aren’t prepared to confirm that. Rather than jump on the hybrid bandwagon, the e:s uses the simple method of making the car smaller and lighter to improve fuel economy and CO2 emissions. By reducing the kerb weight to just 700kg, the car manages an impressive 85mpg.
Finally, the Basket is a retro looking utility vehicle, that looks like a truck but can seat four if needed and offers a no-nonsense way to carry cargo or passengers around.
