Citroen Revolte Concept – The 2CV Comes of Age

Let’s face it, the legendary 2CV was a funny car – reverse it in a fast circle a few times and it would fall over! But many people fell in love with the car’s simplicity and bouncy ride.

Now Citroen have revealed a new concept inspired by the 2CV but which incorporates luxury, technical innovation, sports car handling and daring design. And which probably won’t fall over!

The somewhat unfortunate name for the concept, introduced in Frankfurt, is the Revolte, which refers to the car’s electric hybrid underpinning. The Revolte is driven by a combination of electric motor and petrol engine, but allows a completely electric mode for lower CO2 emissions around town.

Experimental design and bold styling are found in abundance, with limo-like rear suicide doors, a seat for the driver along with a rear sofa for two passengers, and a folding roof which harks back to the original 2CV but which now incorporates solar cells to help keep the batteries topped up. A luxurious and tactile interior is provided with the use of woven leather, aluminium and even velvet.

The Revolte is similar in size to the popular Fiat 500 and the Citroen C2, but Citroen are adamant that the Revolte won’t make it into production any time soon, and that the Frankfurt show launch is purely to gauge customer reaction to the design and features.
