BMW Lovos Concept – Car? Fish? Hedgehog?

BMW Lovos

BMW are keeping themselves at the top of the headline list with their innovative and revolutionary BMW Vision EfficientDynamics, and to follow on from that, they have unveiled this bizarre BMW-badged concept, named BMW Lovos.

The Lovos was created and designed by a 24 year old German student at the Pforzheim University, Anne Forschner, after she worked with BMW.

With the ‘spiky’ yet ‘scaly’ design of this car, it looks like she has based her ideas on some kind of fish/hedgehog combo, and the car looks like it belongs in a James Bond or Transformers movie rather than for eventual road use.

The bodywork of the BMW Lovos, which loosely translates as ‘Lifestyle of Voluntary Simplicity’, is in theory constructed from just one fully exchangeable part that is replicated 260 times.  Each exterior piece is covered in solar cells and can hinge on a foundation underneath to follow the sun or act as individual airbrakes.  This leaves the assumption that the car would be powered by electricity.    The wheels are also covered in 12 responsive turbine blades that react to braking or movement as well as manipulating drag to improve efficiency.

To challenge her automotive production methods, Forschner took inspiration from the world we live in, which she views as more and more complicated, and she also questioned how many elements we currently use to create vehicle exteriors – what would a car look like if we simply used one repeating element?

Well, now we know. We’ll let you be the judge!
