With the rising cost of fuel and a 4.3% rise on insurance premiums since the beginning of 2010 it’s no wonder people are thinking more carefully about their choice of car.
People are looking for a spacious, yet greener and cheaper to run car so below are 10 cars that do just that:

Price £12,445 and Insurance Group 3 (11).
The MiTo is one of the coolest small cars on the road and this 1.4-litre petrol model is fun to drive and has a combined fuel economy of 47.9mpg.

Price £9,265 and Insurance Group 3 (5).
The Fiat 500 is probably the funkiest car on the market considering it has only been on sale for a couple of years. The 1.2-litre Pop is a great little car with a combined fuel economy of 55.4mpg and if you choose the right options you can totally personalise it to your taste.

Price £9,820 and Insurance Group 3 (9).
The Mazda 2 is a great little car that drives well and scores well with insurance companies thanks to its safety, security features and low repair costs. It also has an average fuel economy of 55.4mpg.

Price £9,695 and Insurance Group 3 (10).
The Dynamique version of the Renault Twingo is inexpensive to insure and comes with good equipment and is still one of the most fun cars you can drive. The averge fuel consumption for the Twingo is 50.4mpg.

Price £9,350 and Insurance Group 2 (3).
The Seat Ibiza has a spacious interior even if you choose the 3-door model. It has a great sounding engine, very low insurance and an average fuel economy of 51.4mpg.

Price £9,995 and Insurance Group 2 (3).
The iQ is not one of the biggest but it is a nice little car that is great around town. It has a low insurance rating and an impressive average fuel economy of 65.7mpg.

Price £6,895 and Insurance Group 2 (8).
The Picanto is Kia’s smallest car and is fairly basic but you are rewarded with cost-effective motoring. Kia offer a seven-year 100,000 miles warranty and average fuel economy is 57.6mpg

Price £6,945 and Insurance Group 1 (1).
The Chevrolet comes with six airbags and was awarded four stars in the Euro NCAP making it a favourite with insurance companies. It is not particularly quick but it is stylish and spacious and fuel economy is around 55.4mpg.

Price £8,220-8,495 and Insurance Group 1 (2-3).
Compared to the Spark and Picanto, the Toyota Aygo is a little more expense but it is still cheap to run with fuel economy averaging 51.4mpg.

Price £7,150 – £7,655 and Insurance Group 1 (1).
With low insurance costs the Nissan Pixo is a popular car, and with low emissions and an impressive fuel econonmy of 64.2mpg it is worth looking at.
